Composition with the Sun online

Ewa Doroszenko’s project implemented in 2020 during lockdown consisting of a series of graphic works.

The project by Ewa Doroszenko refers to the work entitled „Composition with the Sun” by Marian Bogusz, an outstanding artist of the Polish avant-garde, which is in the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw. Inspired by the works of Bogusz and other artists presented at the First Exhibition of Modern Art in 1948-49 at the Krakow Palace of Art, Ewa Doroszenko creates a series of graphic works stylistically related to the trends that dominated the exhibition – geometric abstraction and the surrealist-metaphorical trend.

Analyzing the possibilities of translating the formal layer of selected works into the language of digital art, Ewa Doroszenko experiments with new technologies trying to develop a new kind of expression. Radical computer processing and the subtle use of colours make Doroszenko’s compositions look like abstract paintings. As a professional painter (in 2012 she received her PhD in painting at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń) she deals with „digital painting” revealing the authentic character of the file as a collection of pixel data. Confronting the universal values of Polish avant-garde art with digital media, she combines several complex graphic techniques using Internet sources.

The project was implemented under the scholarship program of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland – Culture online. / Projekt zrealizowano w ramach programu stypendialnego Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego – Kultura w sieci.
